Blue Spring in Shannon County, Mo.
Located near Owls Bend this beautiful spring is surrounded by forest off the Current River. It ranks sixth in the state in average daily flow (90 million gallons). The nature area is owned by the Missouri Department of Conservation and maintained in cooperation with the National Park Service. Diving here is by research permit only.
Starting in the fall of 2004 new survey line was put in past the old 1995 reel at 260'. Aside from the last 50' all old line was removed for safety reasons as it was all over the place, up to six of them at the 150' level. Survey and sketches have been done to the current end of the line.
Blue Spring really lives up to it's name, at times the water clarity here is remarkable. The spring runs deep to 276', then back up over hill 210, and then heads downhill again. Further exploration in November 2008 took the line out and over the 180' Hill and then back down through the Catacomb section where a pinch down was encountered at 245' depth.
On December 6, 2008 a survey team found a way through the Catacombs to find more large going passage. More from Blue Spring in the near future.
