Blue Spring

 in Shannon County, Mo.

Located near Owls Bend this beautiful spring is surrounded by forest off the Current River. It ranks sixth in the state in average daily flow (90 million gallons). The nature area is owned by the Missouri Department of Conservation and maintained in cooperation with the National Park Service. Diving here is by research permit only.

Starting in the fall of 2004 new survey line was put in past the old 1995 reel at 260'. All old line was removed for safety reasons as it was all over the place, up to six of them at the 150' level. Survey and sketches have been done to the current end of the line.

Blue Spring really lives up to it's name, at times the water clarity here is remarkable. The spring runs deep to 276', then back up over the 200' hill, and then heads downhill again. The OCDA is preparing for long decompression times here in the fall of 2008.
