The Ozark Cave Diving Alliance

Devil's Icebox Cave Trip

In September of 2007 we were invited to explore some sump areas to see if any passages existed beyond. Here are a few pictures of the efforts of all involved. There is a short clip of this trip on our video page.

Brian starts gearing up in the office parking lot.

The litter is starting to fill up as Jeff Page looks on.

Terry and Susan secure some of the 185 lbs of gear going into the system as Roxie looks on.

It's a short drive to the jump off point by the cave system.

It's another walk to get the equipment and canoes up the hill and down to the cave entrance.

Who said getting canoes into the cave system was easy?

Roxie briefs everyone before we start inbound.

The first half mile is water passage with several portages, here Brain and Shannon head out.

At The Beach the canoes are hauled up out of possible harms way and we start the inbound trek.

Our host Park Naturalist Roxie Campbell.

It was decided to remove the tanks from the litter to reduce the weight. We brought along shoulder slings just in case.

Susan Thrasher and Terry DeFraites managing the litter.

Brian attempts to excite some luminescent crystals for the WCT video we were recording.

Some nice ceiling formations we passed beneath.

One of the nicest bacons I have seen in a while.

This area has some nice scenery.

Roxie points out some neat formations.

More nice formations.

Real interesting fungi growth next to the trail.

Kathy and Jeff filter water while waiting for the divers to gear up at the sump.

Brian gears up for the sump push.

Full rez shot of a dome area beyond the sump.

Full rex pic of the dome Brian and Shannon saw.

Full rez shot of what appears to be an upper tunnel at the top of the dome area. We're ready to go back!

Brian and Shannon return from the dive as Kathy waits to hear the news.

Brian and Shannon report they have found 1300' of walking passage beyond the sump as Kathy and Roxie listen in. The divers stopped due to time.

Getting gear packed up after the 1 hour 35 minute trip beyond the sump.

Brian uses his hid lights for some background illumination.
